This review is for the coffee/cappuccino at detour cafe. Went there to meet a friend in the afternoon, had a cappuccino and it was delicious- smooth and rich! Its a cozy with enough plugs around if you want to work on your laptop. Great atmosphere as well. Definitely would stop by again when I'm in the area.

Food is always reliably delicious . Teas and coffees are well prepared and tasty. It's a busy place-very popular so you often have to wait for a table. DETOUR is my 'Go to' eatery in Dundas for very casual eating.

We were waiting in line for a while and when we got to the counter she said to go? And we said for here and told us to go sit down and we would be waited on there. We should have just been able to order after we waited. We got two Americanos, each of a different blend and we didn't find either very impressive. Not a good taste. We asked for milk on the side steamed and they charged us 2$ for a tiny thing of warm milk!! Considering an Americano is 3$ that's just insane. Overall a nice environment but the expresso just isn't that great.

I never write reviews but I found this place on google and went there based on the 4.5/5 review... and I seriously don't know how they got that rating.

I went here today in hopes of sitting on the patio because it was such a nice day outside. Once we got in, we were told the patio was full and it was a 30 min wait, but if we chose to sit inside then we can't switch tables to outside afterwards. We were already starving so we just settled to sit inside. This experience was brutal. It is SO crammed that it would make anybody feel uncomfortable. The cafe was soo noisy between sitting practically elbow to elbow with someone else, and the baristas slamming things against the counter. My boyfriend and I literally gave up on conversation because I kept saying "WHAT?? I can't hear you" (I'm not joking).

Menu only has around 8-10 items. Food took about a half an hour, getting our bills from the server took even longer.

So finally, I got the grilled cheese and side of greens. Grilled cheese was tasty, salad probably had half a teaspoon of dressing on it so just tasted like plain lettuce. My boyfriend got the sausage breakfast sandwich... he said it was good, had actual little sausages instead of a breakfast sausage patty so that was different. But that's literally all it was. No sides with his and it was only a dollar less than mine. They served his single sandwich on such a large plate that it just looked so chincy.

Overall, staff was nice but service was very slow. Food was good, nothing to write home about. You can definitely go somewhere else and get triple times the food for the same price (probably even less, to be honest). Atmosphere was loud and uncomfortable.

No more then 2 months go, this was what I would have described as the BEST place for breakfast in all of Hamilton and surrounding areas....NOT anymore!!

I don't know if they have come under new ownership, but my last three visits have been nothing short of terrible.

First, my wife ordered their avocado toast which she has ordered hundreds of times in the past, and never been disappointed. When they brought it out it had maybe one spoonful of avocado on it and little to no garnish. When I brought this to the waitresses attention, and mentioned that it always comes with nearly triple the amount that was served to us this time, she simply replied with "sorry, but maybe you just got a small avocado"....seriously? When I asked to speak with the manager, she reluctantly said she would bring over extra avocado...which they proceeded to bill us for anyways. The manager never once came over to offer an explanation or apology.

Secondly, their Detour breakfast WAS (past tense) the best! It has always been expensive, but they would make up for that with HUGE portions and awesome extras (butter, jam , and of course the tomato jam)..But not anymore. The portions are smaller, the tomato jam is no longer included and the price of course went up. Oh and if you want the tomato jam, that will now cost you an extra $1.00. The last two times I ordered this breakfast, I had to send it back because the bacon was so over cooked that when I picked it up, it disintegrated. How does it even leave the kitchen like that?!?

I'm not sure who owns and operates this place now...but damn...you guys messed up a good thing.

I will never visit or recommend this place to anyone EVER again. There are plenty better options in Hamilton and surrounding areas.
